Custom-designed by Architect William Turnbull on the western Sea Ranch hillside, our Backpack home is a special getaway. Rural elements blend beautifully with innovative styles and features. The ocean view from this western hillside location is really pretty. And, you'll enjoy the eye-catching design throughout the interior of the home.

The main floor offers living room with ocean views, fireplace, satellite TV, stereo; dining area. This home is great for some to be in small intimate conversations or come together as a group comfortably.

The kitchen has a combination gas & electric cooktop, double ovens, Sub-Zero refrigerator, an island with a sink for extra prep space and a dishwasher. The breakfast table offers garden views, and seats four.

The den/bedroom has a queen sofa-bed, office workspace, fireplace, access to the upper deck and ocean views. The bathroom between the den and the kitchen includes a shower.

The upper deck has a gas bbq, some outdoor seating and ocean views.

The lower floor includes two bedrooms with queen beds, each with a private entry into the gardens and a full bath in the hall. The hall bathroom has both a shower and a soaking tub and more garden views. The tremendous master suite has a king bed, long window seats, seating, and a fireplace. Doors lead to the large private deck with seating to enjoy the peaceful moments in the serene garden, and the hot tub. The master bathroom is extra-ordinary! Besides the glass and slate double shower, you can luxuriate in the sauna, soak in the large hot tub on the deck, and enjoy spacious dressing and vanity areas.

The hot tub is on the lower deck off the master bedroom and gardens. Explore the many areas around the home in the fully fenced in garden area.

"The Backpack House was by far one of the most unique and fun homes we have ever rented. The upper deck was our favorite spot for morning coffee to enjoy the sea views. We even could see whales! The downstairs bathroom is ridiculous in a great way. Our kids played throughout the grounds like it was an Enchanted Forest. Also, the sunset views from the same deck were just spectacular. I have nothing negative to say about this house, it was perfect and super clean! Thank you for the great memories."
"This house is amazing for a large family stay. It has plenty of room, both upstairs and down, and plenty bathrooms. The view is beautiful. I feel the pictures do this house no justice at all. There’s a little trail all around the house with a small deck in back. I felt the downstairs deck was a bit small but none the less nice and comfortable. We had a big dinner for our family and guests who lived in the area (We are Locals), the dinner was for my daughter and Grandsons memorial. This home fit our needs well. I was worried about the size of the home because like I said earlier the pictures do this home no justice. But the great staff let me do a walk through and it was perfect and exactly what I needed. There are a few things I did feel needed some updates such as, the kitchen chairs, there was an Ottoman in the study that was falling to pieces, I could use a new paint Job, and the master needs a rug in the porch doorway. Oh WHITE RUGS! over all a great spot. I would rent here again."

"Location of house was great. Customer service from rental agency was great. When I called they were available to answer my questions. This house is situated on a higher street so great ocean views from living room/dining room, den, and patio. Lock box was convenient and easy to use - helpful for multiple guests/family to share key/come & go. The cleaning upon arrival was ok but could have been more detailed. Since you are in nature beware of little critters. There were some large ants & spiders. Fridge/freezer were a good size. Downstairs bed in bedroom near laundry room squeaks when you move at all in the bed. This was a problem since we had a 5 year old in the room with us. The master suite is amazing. The other downstairs bedroom seemed ok - had a murphy bed. Overall house location was great. Sea Ranch amenities also included and nice - pool, tennis, sauna. Condition of house matched price we paid. Beds could be more comfortable to allow for a better stay overall."
"Everything about this house is perfect. We love the big dining table, which is great for cards and board games. We love the luxurious glass shower. We love the quiet solitude. We especially loved looking up at the stars from the relaxing hot tub on the back deck. We thought we had a few small complaints. We didn't like the glass cutting board (bad for knives,) and we thought that the house would come with a supply of wood for the fireplace. On the last night, we discovered that there are vinyl and wood cutting boards leaning beside the knife block (where you might expect,) and the firewood is stacked by the outside garbage. (Note to our future selves: don't be stupid, look more carefully.) So no complaints! We love this house!"
